Webmaster's comment The watches of most residents in Cagayan de Oro are 10 to 15 minutes advanced. Radio stations provide conflicting time. Foreigners may find this oddity disconcerting. Below is the accurate time for the Philippines as indicated by timeanddate.com.

Political Subdivision 57 urban barangays and 23 rural barangays.

Area

489 square kilometers, representing 14% of Misamis Oriental province. Has about 25 kilometers of coastline and deep harbors.

Topography

Coastal plain is narrow and averages 10 meters above sea level. Highlands bound the city in the south, running east to west. Highlands are composed of plateaus, terraces, hills, mountains, canyons and gorges.

Mainly clay. Others are sand, loam, and clay loam.

The concentration of clay in Bulua has produced a pottery industry, patronized not only in Cagayan de Oro but also by surrounding areas. Recently, a German ceramist has made experiments on Bulua clay, mixing it with materials from Surigao and other places in Mindanao.

Agricultural areas comprise 35%; non-agricultural, 63%. The latter is divided into residential, commercial 1, commercial 2, industrial, institutional, parks and open spaces, and planned unit development.
